Christmas Holiday Bucilla Felt Ornament Kits

Red and white felt heart ornament designs

If you fancy making up some felt applique crafts for the festive Holiday season but don't have time to invest in anything that is too large or complicated, Bucilla have designed some smaller kits based on making ornaments to hang up on your Christmas tree. These sets still manage to look intricate and detailed and are not really recommended for absolute beginner sewers but they can be fun for more experienced crafters to make.

I've picked out a couple of favorite sets that I like the look of. You can make up these for yourself or to give out to family and friends. The nice thing is that, once made, you can enjoy them every year as you bring out all the wonderful and pretty decorations.

These traditional looking designs are just perfect to complement a Christmas tree decked out in the standard Christmas colors of red, green and white. They are intricate designs and look like little felt jewels. Although these are smaller projects to tackle for the Holiday season, they still have all the detail and fine stitching that is quite standard on most of the Bucilla felt applique kits.

This one makes use of sequins and metallic threads to give it a lot of added sparkle. And there are small stitches to embroider and make including french knots. I love the tiny addition of Holly and the felt bows at the top of each piece.

For even more of a challenge, there is this old fashioned looking Santa set which again would suit a more traditionally dressed tree. These ornaments are going to take time, care and precision to make with all the tiny little stitches required in the sewing. Check out the adorable little teddy bear in the Santa sack.

There are not really any complicated stitches required for this set as it is mostly running stitch and being able to sew on both sequins and beads. However, it is the small scale and the level of detail for intricate and tiny stitching that will make this quite a challenge. It's not a beginner friendly project. If you're looking for a few simpler ornament craft projects, there are some more kits below on this site which you can also view.

Felt is a really easy fabric to work with and my favorite material to sew. It cuts nicely and you don’t need to worry about sewing up the raw edges because the cut sides do not fray. It works beautifully with stitching and embroidery and I love to sew with embroidery floss through it although you can also use plain sewing thread of the type normally used for sewing machines. Bucilla make some amazing kits and they are highly recommended but of course many other sets are becoming available too and improving all the time. Leave a comment for me if you wish.
